Last 3 years the number of saved people with TB is 53 000 within Kazakhstan. In Kazakhstan, the equipment was purchased that allows us to detect the bacteria within 2 hours.

The effective diagnosis and new treatment regimens have saved the lives of more than 53 000 Kazakhstanis who have become ill with tuberculosis over the past three years. This was told by the director of the National Scientific Center of Phthisiopulmonology of the Republic of Kazakhstan Malik Adenov.

For the early detection of tuberculosis, Kazakhstan has introduced the most modern methods that get an international standard and allow us to determine the presence of tuberculosis and its stable forms when the body does not respond to powerful drugs. Diagnostics takes a period of two hours to two days.

To date, all large areas in the regions of Kazakhstan are equipped with XpertMTBRif equipment for quick diagnosis. In total, there are 109 such devices in the country. By the end of the year, it is planned to purchase another 19 units.

“For the treatment of tuberculosis in the country, all the advanced drugs used in the world are available. All patients with both sensitive and resistant forms of tuberculosis are provided with adequate treatment. Over the past three years, new anti-TB drugs have been introduced in Kazakhstan, such as bedaquiline, delamanide, linezolid, clofazimine, and new treatment regimens have been approved. In 2019, at the expense of the republican budget, new drugs were purchased for 2,554 patients, which made it possible to cover all patients with an adequate treatment", – said Malik Adenov, director of the National Scientific Center of Phthisiopulmonology of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Now in the Republic of Kazakhstan, a comprehensive plan for the tuberculosis for 2014-2020, approved by the Government and being implemented.

Over the past three years, the incidence rate of tuberculosis in the Republic of Kazakhstan has decreased 1.1 times (from 52.7 in 2016 to 48.2 per 100 thousand of the population in 2018). The mortality rate is 1.4 times (from 3.4 to 2.4 per 100 thousand of the population). According to preliminary data, for 9 months of 2019, the incidence rate was 45.9, and mortality - up to 2.0 per 100 thousand of the population. The rate of decline in morbidity and mortality in Kazakhstan from year to year is 7-8%, while in the countries of the European Region – 2-3%.
